Mentor – “An experienced and trusted adviser”. If you’ve never thought about using a marketing mentor for your business, here’s some points to consider on why you should:
- It makes you accountable – all too often business owners have great ideas of what they’d like to do in terms of marketing, but then get busy elsewhere in the business, even if they desperately need to focus on marketing to bring in new clients. A mentor can keep you focused, make you accountable and help you make your marketing happen.
- It’s all about you! You decide what you want the mentoring process to focus on, but ultimately you are responsible for taking the decisions and implementing the actions.
- It brings new ideas to the table – a good mentor will help you brainstorm different ways of approaching your marketing. They will offer suggestions based on what other people have done in similar businesses, or perhaps ideas from different business sectors.
- It’s good to talk! For many business owners it can sometimes feel lonely at the top if you have specific issues you want to get off your chest, but don’t feel there is anyone else in the business you can turn to. A mentor should be a good listener and help you consider different options.
- It’s cost effective – for businesses that can’t afford their own marketing person, having a mentor is a great way to work with an experienced marketer, at a fraction of the cost. You can choose as much or as little mentoring support as you need, whether that be monthly calls through to weekly get-to-togethers to provide support during a particular marketing activity such as a product launch, office opening etc.
Increasingly Momentum for Professionals are being asked to provide a mentoring service to our clients. If this is of interest to you, contact us today on 01822 833300 or email vicki@momentumforprofessionals.co.uk.
