There is so much happening in the accountancy profession at the moment, it can be easy to forget (or not get round to) doing any marketing or client communication activities. So what can you do to make sure you keep the marketing wheels turning before the end of the year?
Sometimes by focusing on fewer activities, we can actually achieve more. The key is to identify a couple of key activities that you really want to implement, rather than having a long wish list of things it would be nice to do. Wish lists are great but can overwhelm people, so ultimately nothing happens. You may want to achieve one or two activities by Christmas, or perhaps aim for one activity a month. The choice needs to be yours so you take ownership and make it happen.
By focusing your marketing and client communications on one or two activities (whether per month or over the next four months) you’ll make the activities manageable and will be more likely to give them more of your attention.
What to focus on?
So, what marketing activities can you realistically implement between now and Christmas? Here are some ideas:
• Send a letter and information about MTD to your clients (if you haven’t done so already).
• Identify and attend at least 3 local networking events.
• Review the content of your website, do any of the pages need updating or perhaps new pages adding?
• Create a service-specific marketing leaflet.
• Add an article/services page on your website about MTD.
• Place an advert in a local parish magazine promoting a specific service.
• Book and exhibit at a local show or exhibition.
• Organise a MTD seminar.
• Carry out a client survey.
• Have a chat with Momentum about outsourcing your marketing, so it does happen!
More often than not, once you implement one activity it gives you the confidence and motivation to do more.
So, give it a go. Decide on one or two activities that you really want to implement and get the ball rolling, it’s easy to keep going once you make a start.
