Brochures – they do make a difference

Don’t underestimate the power of a marketing brochure for your firm, I can assure you they do make a difference!

Recent conversations with clients have identified a trend. Marketing brochures, whether printed or electronic, are still a valuable tool in your marketing toolbox. Here are a couple of ‘live’ examples:

  • A client who emailed a PDF of their brochure to their customers as part of their annual renewal process. The brochure was used to reinforce the customer’s own experience of how great the product was, but also to highlight other products and services which were also available. The outcome was a swift renewal and new conversations with other partners in this business about other products which could be of benefit.
  • Making follow up calls having sent a letter (with brochure) or an email. In both cases, recipients have remembered the firm because of the presence of the brochure. Some people also stated they kept the printed brochure to hand on their desk as a reminder that they need to contact the firm to discuss their services.

Why you should have a brochure

When selling a service, it can be harder to make the sale when you only have one opportunity to get your message across, i.e. from a one-off meeting, mailing or event you have attended.

Whilst digital marketing activities (website, social media, emails, Google AdWords etc.) are a key part of many firms marketing activities, these are very ‘busy’ platforms and it is increasingly becoming harder to get your messages seen above your competitors.

This is where a printed or PDF brochure can help.

We are seeing a move back to more traditional methods of marketing with printed mailings and brochures having more of an impact. This is because fewer people are using them, therefore they stand out more. However, PDF versions of brochures can be just as effective.

Benefits of having a brochure

  • It is something tangible to give to prospective clients at the end of a free consultation meeting, or to email them as part of a reason to follow up. This is particularly important if the meeting is as a result of a telemarketing activity to book appointments, where the prospective has little or no knowledge about your firm.
  • A printed brochure is likely to stay on someone’s desk for a while, giving the opportunity to remind the recipient of the services you provide and the experience they had during the meeting.
  • Recipients are more likely to flick through and read the brochure after your meeting when they have more time to digest the contents.
  • Printed or PDF brochures and leaflets can be sent out with mailings or emails to provide further information about your services and the firm, thereby reinforcing the message you want to communicate.
  • They can also be a useful reminder about your services for staff to have on their desks.
  • Brochures which have been professionally designed reinforce your brand and reputation.
  • PDF brochures can be loaded onto your website and social media sites, providing an online option for your digital clients and prospects.
  • With most printers now using digital printing facilities, the cost of printing brochures has come down dramatically in recent years.

So, if you want to stand out from the crowd in this digital world, try going ‘back to basics’ and create printed brochures and leaflets to sell your services.
