As we come to the end of the first month of being officially out of the EU, there has been much talk in the media about issues surrounding imports and exports and the new regime of paperwork and increased tariffs and taxes. So far we have heard little about GDPR post Brexit.
Thankfully for most UK small businesses, one thing which is not changing is the UK’s data protection regulations. However, if your practice or your client’s businesses have customers or contacts in the European Economic Area you may find you have additional EU data protection rules to comply with.
To help sole traders and small businesses get to grips with current data protection legislation, the Information Commissioner’s Office has put together a short interactive online tool, called the ‘End of transition – interactive tool for small businesses’. The tool will then generate a report with suggested actions to take, based on the answers you provide.
The ICO website provides lots of useful guidance on the UK (and EU) data protection laws and I have found their online and telephone support service to be very helpful in the past.
